I never liked Ulme that much in the past, so I didn’t really care when I didn’t hear from them for lots of years. Now everyone’s in a flurry since there has been an EP some months ago so you just have to respect the status the band has. Here’s the new album after six years. Ulme is a stoner rock band and there was a time when I immediately threw up every time I heard this unmistakable guitar sound of a stoner band. That was because every single band sounded exactly the same. At least: the three guys don’t participate in this hunt for clichés. They’re just quoting from the illustrious stoner heroes without stereotyping. The song “Leaves are falling” is a bomb – without any doubt the best song on the album, because it has this marvelous guitar riff and a rousing vocal line. The rest of the songs ranges from at least respectable to cool. Ulme are back. They’re probably the most important German stoner band, but definitely the best one next to Colour Haze.
