MAGICRAYS - Off The Map (Gentlemen)
Behind the inconspicuous band name there’s clenched notables from Switzerland. On the one hand there’s a guy called Fig who among other things is the owner of the formidable label called Gentlemen Records. On the other hand there’s singer Raphael Enard who’s also doing solo stuff as Raphelson. The band followed its singer and had its fourth album produced by John Parish who has worked with   bands like 16 Horsepower, Eels or PJ Harvey before. Together with the producer the band has conjured a wonderfully warm and dense album that changes from classic indie rock to dinamic noise parts. At some of the quiet moments the  Magicrays don't even differ that much from Raphael Enards solo stuff, mostly, however, they're louder and play some lofty-reserved rock musik that the band itself likes to compare to Wilco or Coldplay. Big melodies and rousing dynamism make "Off the map" a very good album - and certainly the best one of the Magicrays up to now.
