FLUID TO GAS - Lemons For Lunch (F-Spin/Coraille/Rumblefish) |
|
This one ist the fourth album by this band from Bonn, Germany, that has been up to no good since the mid-nineties. This three-piece is pretty old-established and totally DIY. Probably because they're forced to be. "Lemons For Lunch" contains eight songs, all of them have been recorded in the band's own rehearsal room (but in a very good sound quality), and the album has been released by the band's guitarist Christian Carazo-Ziegler on his label F-Spin - in cooperation with Rumblefish (Italy) and Coraille (Germany). Especially the latter have proven their good taste in music not just once (Song And Dance, The Dragon Rapide...). What can I say? Twelve years of FLuid TO Gas, and to all those people who haven't heard of them yet: it's high time! Together with the magnificent Subrosa Falcon Association they evoke the spirit of the early DC sound - so they belong to the good ones. While the Association is about noise and sweat Fluid To Gas are more moderate, even though they can be as intensive in their loud moments. The sound is very austere, reduced to what's possible with just three players - but we all know how good that sounds, and it's a nice contrast to all of this over-produced shit out there. The highlights of this album are the songs that are somewhat hymnic, most of all the opener called "Movng Road Club" and songs like "Lunchbox" or "Dreams Humming". In those songs especially the vocals really kick ass. The other songs are cool because of their groove, the bent guitars and tricky song structures. Just how I like it. Even though Fluid To Gas take bands from the past as an example this album is much more relevant than a lot of bands that are considered to be modern nowadays.
