ALARMA MAN - s/t (Car Crash/Sinnbus) |
|
These four lads are from Sweden's former hardcore metropolis Umea and they are way too young - compared to how fucking awesome this album is. I've always been into math rock and stuff like that, but in this case the term "math punk" is more to the point. Whoever invented this term couldn't have said it better. Alarma Man is an instrumental band, but you couldn't compare them to bands like Mogwai or From Monument To Masses. Sometimes it's a wall of sound, or better, wall of noise, sometimes weird guitar lines knot artfully into another. At last you can also taste a little bit of chaos core flavour at times, just like JR Ewing or Traktor for example. I presume it's a leftover from older days when influences like this have been more present. Speaking of older stuff: I just said that Alarma Man is instrumental, but they haven't always been. I've just heard older songs with vocals in it. Altogether this one is an album that made me listen attentively. It's hectic in a grateful way and a benefit to my maltreated ears that haven't heard a cool album like this within this chaotic and noisy genre in a long time.
