31KNOTS - It Was High Time To Escape (54° 40' or Fight!) |

Damn, noone can really tell how much I've been waiting for this album by a band that some months ago I called ingenious! And that is no wonder for guitarist and singer Joe Haege tries to emulate the complexity of jazz players and the rhythm section is just as good. But in case you are put off now, remember this is rock music. Just think of new Dischord-school, maybe Q And Not U or El Guapo, but - just like I mentioned before - with more jazz in it. So here is the new album, in no way disappointing me. Daniel says it's less tricky than "A Word Is Also A Picture Of A Word", but I'm not sure, I think it seems more catchy because of the sound. It's bone-dry, but the songs are as experimental as usual. The Knots are striving for originality and they can really measure with their preceding albums, because they always try out new things, just like in "No Sound" or "Matters From Ashes", which are based on weird samples. I think this album is even one step further than "A Word...", because it sounds even more sovereign than the ones before. I can't wait to see this band live, when they're on tour through Germoney.
