| LAST DAYS OF APRIL MIGHT AS WELL BE A SOLO PROJECT last days of april are back. that means karl larsson is back. what started as a band is now a one man show - even more than it has always been. this is a follow-up to an interview we did some years ago when "if you lose it" has been released. so, barely any basics, mostly talks about what's new and what's not. |

| what happened in the last days of april? has there been a special event that made you name our band after? No, just a name. It would have been nice to have somthing exciting to say about it but I'm afraid it's nothing but a name... Sorry. at a not-so-good-attended show in berlin you said: "indie is small" - do you still think so after all these years of touring around? Hahaha, no! It's huge. It has grown so much. What was indie during the 90's is commercial now and what was commercial during the 80's or 90's is indie now. If you sound like Prince today you're a new hip indie-electro artist but if you're doing what we are you're just what shows on The Late Show every night... andreas förnell, the last founding member, left the band. how did that happen? He had other priorities... Carl (Wikman) did almost all the touring for "If You Lose It" and when there was time for "Might As Well Live" touring Andreas wasn't sure he wanted to do it while Carl was 100% sure. So it wasn't a hard choice. Carl is now the official drummer, so spread the word! how did you find the musicians for your new album? When Andreas wasn't sure. Pelle (Gunnerfeldt) suggested that we should use Fredrik from Randy. He thought he would suit the songs and he did. Mathias (Oldén from Logh) played bass on IYLI and did a great job so I wanted him to do it again. but mathias and fredrik are still busy with their own bands. how much time can they afford for ldoa? No time at all but now we're the most solid line-up we've been since the start, me, Carl and Kristian (Karlsson). So it feels like we'll be rocking for a while. the people you're working with are from logh, randy, ex-fireside... do all musicians from sweden know each other? Haha, no. But we all have recorded with Pelle, so he ties us together. with all similarity in style and staff: what's the difference between ldoa and karl larsson with his solo stuff? why did you differentiate between both? I wanted to play more with Carl after the IYLI tour so we teamed up to make Pale As Milk. We wrote and recorded it in three weeks, then we asked Bad Taste Records if they wanted to release it and they did. A lot of those song do really well live, so we do them with LDOA now. including "pale as milk" there was almost two years of silence. even barely any updates on your homepage. where has karl larsson been back then? There's been a lot of touring and writing. About the homepage, there's no excuse. Since Andreas hasn't been that involved in LDOA lately he hasn't done any updates there. I'm horrible at computers so I can't do it either. But I took over a myspace site some fan had started and have had that as website since 1 year back. www.myspace.com/ldoa "if you lose it" was kind of reduced to the max - concerning sound and arrangements. i have the impression that "might as well live" is more opulent, even though you stepped towards "a more classic rock band setting". is that right? That's correct! Just did an interview with someone who said that MAWL sounded exactly like IYLI. It seemed to me that he hadn't given the record a listen. I'm glad you did. I wanted to have a classic three-piece sound this time. the same goes for the cover artwork. it's pretty much different from the ones before. a conscious decision? There's a lot more pink in it. A conscious decision indeed, I wanted it to stand out a bit from the previous ones. It's the first time I'm on the cover. why do you think that "might as well live" is the best album so far? Yeah I do. It would be a bit sad otherwise... what is the statement of the album title? That the band might as well live even though I'm the only original member in it. is it true that you haven't ever played in the usa? as far as i know at least some of your records have been released there. what do you expect from this tour? It's true we've never been there. It's sad. This time we have to go, our minds are set on it and it's something we really wanna do. Almost all the mail we get are from the states so it's definitely about time we tour there. thanks again, christian Thanks Christian! If you think my tone changed towards the end it's because Itunes changed from Dinosaur jr to DIO. Good questions and see you on tour. /Karl
