the blood brothers are big! almost 900.000 profile views and 70.000 friends at myspace. christina aguilera has only twice as much. v2 records is big, too. i almost felt like a rockstar when they first called me, then blood brothers’ bass player morgan henderson on his mobile and then connected us. mr. henderson was not too talkative, but maybe he was just tired.

.........

hi, this is christian. morgan, how are you, where are you and what time is it there?
„hi, i’m fine. i’m in northern california in our van and it’s about 9 a.m.“

there's a very extensive tour through the united states coming towards you. are you looking forward to it or are you just thinking of it as hard work?
„well, sort of both. it’s kind of a break from my routine when i’m home. i’ve been home for a long time and i’ve been busy, but i’m looking forward to it for that reason. we’re going to play almost every night.“

let's talk about your new album. i mean, all the promoters and reviewers agree, but in your opinion: why is this one your best album so far?
„i think as a band is going on hopefully they will think that their current album is their best one. for that reason alone i would say it’s our best one, because it’s our most recent and it’s where our minds are at most recently.“

you've changed you producer on almost every new album. why that?
„not so much with this one, we just added another person. we find new people we want to work with and add them to what we want to do and what we want to try.“

this time you added guy picciotto of fugazi fame. why did you choose him? and what did he do different than the others?
„it was the same process as when we worked with john goodmanson (producer on „crimes“). there are several records that he worked on that we liked. we met him and we all felt really well, so we asked him if he would be involved and he said yes.“

when you started the band you guys were only fifteen or sixteen. how did you look at your band then and how do you do today?
„at that time we didn’t have any idea that we would be a band for so long. that’s different. we’re eight years from that point now. we don’t say something like „hey, let’s see how long we’re going to be a band“, but we don’t look at it as a short stand anymore.“

you're around for so long now, and this one is your fifth album so far. do you ever feel the desire for a change?
„we have time off from the blood brothers, everybody does something different in that time. we all have individual plans and if we all want to do something else after two years of touring off our record. in that break the blood brothers don’t really do very much. i think everybody tries do get their fulfillment inside of the blood brothers and outside of the blood brothers when they can.

you are on a major label, right? do you consider yourselves as mainstream? will you ever be?
„i think that compared to bands that we played with that i consider as mainstream i think we have a way to go before that happens. i don’t think of us as a mainstream band right now. i don’t know if we’re every going to be one, i’m not a fortuneteller.“

i'm just asking because when listening to some of your songs you won't think that your music would be - you know - kinda music for the masses. why do you think it somehow is?
„it’s a surprise to me that more and more people like our music. i don’t have an inborn sense of entitlement in terms of how many people like our band. i think that every music in appeal to all people it’s really up to them to decide whether they’re open enough to like the blood brothers AND christina aguilera.“

maybe at the drive-in made this kind of chaotic and complex music popular some years ago. some people say that today YOU are the figureheads of this certain genre. do you ever think about the importance you might have as a band?
„it’s hard to think about yourself as an important band. i don’t know if that’s a good way to think about your band or a damaging way. i don’t put a lot of time into thinking about what weight we might have in the music scene. i try to focus on playing the music and making the music and that’s first and foremost what i’m doing here.“

i've noticed that people keep asking you about your lyrics. how important is it for you that people put so much emphasis on them?
„i don’t have a first hand in writing lyrics, but i think it’s great that people pay attention and get something out of what jordan and johnny write, because they put a lot of time into these lyrics. so i think it’s great that people pay attention to it.“
